The Driftwood Institute is a public art project that is helping transform the riverbanks of Covington Kentucky into a more ecologically sound place.  Northern Kentucky University Professor of Art, Brad McCombs and Matthew Shackelford, NKU student and Ecological Stewardship Institute scholar have been collecting driftwood along the Ohio and Licking Rivers in Covington over the past summer (and helping clean up trash along the way). They are transforming this collected timber into furniture and sculptural designs that will be for sale at the Covington art festival, Art Off Pike, Sunday September 28 from 11 am – 5 pm on 7th Street between Madison and Washington.  All proceeds from the sale of the driftwood artworks will go to replant trees along the riverbanks through a partnership with Taking Root and Green Umbrella.
